Good listening skill is necessary thing in your learning process. Some people may feel it difficult to hear some person for a long time; for example a number of times you may bore in your lecture. It is because of the reason that you are not paying the attention toward the improvement of your listening skills. Your listening skills will definitely enhance your understanding about the certain things. Such skills are very important whenever you are going to attend a seminar, conference or training programs. Here are some simple things by following which you will be better able to improve your listening skills.
- Choose a position close to speaker so that you can pay a full attention to him and his words. Another thing to do is to show your interest in the speech of other person. Your body language should demonstrate clearly that you are fully inclined toward the speaker.
- Don’t pay attention to internal distractions, it means that you should not pay attention to the thought that come in your mind about the subject. Say goodbye to these thought and maintain your focus on the speaker.
- You should not be attentive for external distraction. You must turn off your mobile phone while hearing a speech because its message tune will absolutely distract you.
- Try to maintain the eye-contact with the speaker to an appropriate degree. You must be careful because sometime speaker feels uncomfortable due to your constant observation.
- Try to create interest in the topic about which speaker make a speech. You should respond effectively as well by saying the words “really”, “Amazing” etc. Your direct prompts will make it feasible for him to remain comfortable.
- If you are disagreeing with the speaker at some point don’t readily express your disagreement. Wait for the time till he ends his speech. Don’t interfere in the middle of speech, let the speaker to covey his message fully and after completion of which you are free to ask a question.
- Try to focus on what the speaker is saying and don’t think what you want to say for the topic. The more focus you maintain, the more improvement will come in your listening skills.
- If you need the clarification of some points then instead of stopping him during speech you should wait for the completion of speech. After making speech, speaker will be relaxed and in a better position to answer your question and queries in an effective manner.
Once you consider these basic points, you will be able to make some improvements in your listening skill. These skills will help you a lot not only in a conference or training session but also in your social communications and interactions.
